Thank you so much for the email and images of your EBW paintings - Lynne and I are really thrilled to see them. They are beautiful portraits and, unfortunately, due to a couple of tragic events, not too many original examples of his work remain. Thank you too for the information on the subjects, it's wonderful to be able to collect all this background on the life of an ancestor whom we have never met - most of it has been via the internet! Your comment about Henry Pearce's interest in left wing politics was very much in line with newspaper articles we have on EBW.

He was a very close friend of Robert Blatchford, son of an actor, who founded the Manchester Fabian Society before launching a socialist newspaper The Clarion. Robert Blatchford wrote EBW's obituary in The Clarion on 30th March 1917. Those were the idealistic socialist days pre Tony Blair!
